Frequently asked
Everything hairdressers usually want to know before booking — experience levels, what to bring, where we meet and how bookings work. If your question isn't here, just ask.
Do I need to be an experienced hairdresser?
Is this for me?
BHE education is designed for qualified hairdressers at different stages of their career. Individual classes will clearly state the recommended experience level.
I'm not confident with short hair. Is this suitable for me?
Is this for me?
Absolutely. Building confidence with short hair is a major part of BHE. The aim isn't just to teach you a haircut, but to help you understand the decisions behind it so you can adapt what you've learned to real clients.
I've done education before and struggled to use it back in the salon. How is BHE different?
Is this for me?
That's the exact problem BHE was built to solve. Most education teaches you to copy a look on the day, but doesn't give you the reasoning to adapt it once you're back with your own clients, your own scissors, your own hands. BHE focuses on the decision-making behind the technique, so what you learn still works when the client in the chair doesn't look like the one in the class.
Will I learn a specific haircut or a cutting method?
Is this for me?
Both, but the bigger goal is understanding why you're doing something. You'll learn techniques through specific looks, while developing principles you can use beyond that one haircut.
Are the courses hands-on or look-and-learn?
What to expect on the day
This depends on the class. Some sessions are demonstration-based, while others include practical work. Every course page will tell you exactly what format to expect.
Do I need to bring my own equipment?
What to expect on the day
Each class will include a clear equipment list beforehand. For practical sessions, you'll usually be expected to bring your normal cutting kit.
Do I need to bring a model?
What to expect on the day
Not unless the individual course specifically states that you need one.
Will I work on a real person or a mannequin head?
What to expect on the day
This varies by course. We'll tell you exactly what you'll be working on before you book.
Where are the classes held?
What to expect on the day
The location is shown on each individual course page, along with timings and anything you'll need to know before travelling.
Can I ask questions during the class?
What to expect on the day
Yes. BHE isn't about standing at the front, delivering a script and sending everyone home. Questions, discussion and understanding why something works are an important part of the education.
What if I don't understand something on the day?
What to expect on the day
Ask. That's exactly what the class is for. There are no stupid questions and you're not expected to already know everything you're there to learn.
What happens after the class?
What to expect on the day
The aim is for you to leave with techniques you can actually use behind the chair, rather than something that only works in a classroom. Where applicable, you'll also receive supporting material to help you revisit what you've learned.
Do you offer 1-to-1 education?
1-to-1 and in-salon education
Yes. 1-to-1 education can be tailored much more closely around the areas of cutting you specifically want to improve.
Can you come to our salon and train the whole team?
1-to-1 and in-salon education
Yes. BHE offers in-salon education for salons that want to develop their team together. Training can be built around the needs and skill level of the salon.
What happens if I can't attend after booking?
